about

Shaun had been reading about the Opium wars of China and was pretty obsessed with the insanity of a nation of people addicted to opium. Also, having had major brain surgery he had been on a morphine drip where he would lay in his hospital bed and listen to A Sun That Never Sets by Neurosis over and over again in an opiate haze. He had been straight edge and vegan for most of his life, but suddenly needing to be on very intense narcotics to kill the pain from having parts of his brain removed was a weird duality for him.
This song sounded like Heroin to us, just a downward spiral of hopeless despair. A lot of our musical heroes had been heroin addicts, and this song felt like a needle in the arm, so we said fuck it and called it Heroin. None of us except for Shaun ever having had any sort of drug harder than Marijuana or caffeine. It seemed to fit the nature of the song.
